I watched it last night too. It seems to me that this "remake" might be a "part 2" instead. The ending of the 1951 classic [SPOILER ALERT?] suggested that the alien would come back and destroy the planet if Earth didn't get it's act together. Well, in the commercials for the new one, when asked if he's here to save us, Keanu says "No." And we've seen the destruction in the trailers. So does this mean the alien is returning, since Earthlings didn't learn their lesson about nuclear power?

MTV regularly uses a female narrator for commercials about upcoming shows.

In an odd way, I’ve never really noticed it and the female voice is somewhat soothing. Almost subliminal.

We all became familiar with a female voice first (our mother’s, while in the womb), so perhaps there is something there.

Watch MTV and pay attention; it’s surprising how much they use a female narrator.

Maybe it will be about underwater zombies.

Perhaps the phrase, “Come with me if you want to live” is a password so that a human knows he’s dealing with another human.

Maybe the robots — ehum, cyborgs — catch onto this and have subsequently used it in the earlier films.

This is going to be a very different film than T2, no doubt. The nice thing about the earlier films is that they were set in present day, and only gave a small look at the future. Now that the future is going to be on full display, it’s going to lose some of its appeal, I think.

Either way, hopefully they don’t make it into some “racial diversity, liberalism is wonderful” sentiment movie. They’ve got to be careful with the whole “humanity is beautiful” stuff.

The tone will be the most difficult thing to get right.

TWO PREDICTIONS:

(1) The FBI terrorism thriller will result in the Muslim guy who is interrogated being found innocent, and the plot the result of some evil white people (bankers, neo nazis, etc.).

HONESTLY, as much as I don’t want to admit it, I think that if you took the scripts for National Treasure and replaced Nick Cage with Harrison Ford and Jon Voight with Sean Connery, you’d have an Indy film that fits the Indy “feel” we’ve come to expect.

Seriously, next time you see Nat. Treasure 1 or 2, just imagine it with the Indy actors (and turn the bad guys into Nazis) and it would be a pretty good addition to the original trilogy.

“John Williams: More Lazy than Ever” — Watch (and listen) as Williams cuts and pastes from all of the previous Indy films. Unlike all of the movie-specific themes present in previous films, Crystal Skull had none whatsoever. Be amazed as you discover how even simple tracks such as the “sinking of the Coronado” theme in the Last Crusade was oddly rehashed.

Dragon’s got a point. And it’s applicable to Charmed as well. Hello? It’s in San Francisco — the population is 1/3 Asian! Maybe I didn’t see enough episodes, but I don’t remember too many Asian characters.

FUN FACT: Something happened to Harrison Ford’s hand during the filming of “Temple of Doom.” Somewhere during the mine chase scene, he has a bandage around his hand. No explanation. At the very end when he’s walking back into town with all the kids, he’s got a fully white cast around his wrist.

This film looks to have a LARGE cast and possibly DOZENS of terminators.

I’m thinking that the upcoming films will have to be based on a search for the time-travel device (which is likely heavily defended by Skynet). The final film in this series will end with Connor dying while trying to stop Skynet from sending a “bad” Arnold back to the early mid-80s, then, someone sending a “good” Arnold back to the early 90s as they unsuccessfully try to stop Skynet from sending back liquid cop guy, and then a final send back of another “good Arnie” and the female terminator.

So the whole thing is a loop.

There is still a ‘slickness’ that exists in T2 that I hope they don’t abandon. I feel this might have too unique of a documentary/gritty style to it. There’s just that James Cameron stylized feeling that I miss…

Of course, more than 50 seconds would help the analysis!

There’s more justification for making muslim terrorists the “bad guys” than ever before, just like there was logic in making the “bad guys” the Soviets during the Cold War. I can’t remember anyone getting apoplectic about the Soviets being the “bad guys” in Red Dawn — it seems Hollywood acknowledgedly the threat back then. Today, now that the nuke-seeking enemy is largely muslim, it seems as if Hollywood doesn’t want to acknowledge that fact.

Certainly whites and non-whites can be “bad guys” in television. I think ’24’ is a great example of how people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds can be terrorists. But remember how a couple of seasons ago, when the fictional terrorists WERE muslim, the producers felt it necessary to have Kiefer make a 30-second statement at every commercial break? Here’s the ridiculous, overly-sensitive statement, verbatim:

“Hi. My name is Kiefer Sutherland. And I play counter-terrorist agent Jack Bauer on Fox’s ’24’. I would like to take a moment to talk to you about something that I think is very important. Now while terrorism is obviously one of the most critical challenges facing our nation and the world, it is important to recognize that the American Muslim community stands firmly beside their fellow Americans in denouncing and resisting all forms of terrorism. So in watching 24, please, bear that in mind.”

Jesus, it’s so patronizing and pathetic. Why wasn’t there a similar disclaimer last season, e.g.: “Not all Chinese want to kill you. Not all Russians are bad people.” Yada, yada.

Bottom line: Since radial jihadists attacked us on 9/11, Hollywood has been scarred about even breaching the relationship between Islam and terrorism. It’s a head-in-the-sand mentality that will kill us.

As for your television list, I think you have to admit it’s pretty unpersuasive. Sydney Bristow wasn’t battling Muslims in any memorable storylines; LOST’s Sayid was briefly thought to be a terrorist, but it’s not like the island is trying to kill him, nor is he trying to blow up the island; the Unit I’m just not familiar with, but that might be a good example. As for the short-lived Sleeper Cell, do you see how Hollywood felt it necessary to make the “good guy” FBI agent a “practicing Muslim” so that when he goes after the jihadists, the producers can feel better about themselves? And those “jihadists,” interestingly, included a white european woman, a hispanic, and a gay muslim. So ridiculous.

As for your movies, Ironman and the Kingdom are good counterpoints. Thank you for those. But the 9/11 movie and Black Hawk Down are both semi-documentaries and I don’t think it possible for writers to avoid reality there.

We’ll see what happens to Red Dawn II. True, the Chinese would make a good enemy. But I can assure there would be plenty of fear and trepidation coming out of Hollywood on the idea of offending the Chinese. But if a producer thinks that a film like Red Dawn — which was memorable because it involved a real enemy — can be remade with an enemy that has no bearing on reality, the only “bomb” he should be worry about is his own film…

You’re an American. The jihadists don’t care what you look like or if you call yourself a “Muslim-American.” They’d fly you into a building just as soon as they’d slit your throat. So don’t direct your anger at me.

Maybe Broomstick, the Capitan, and Edog can all work together and come up with a list of post-9/11 movies and shows that have fictionalized muslim terrorists. Until then, none of you have addressed any of my points. Hollywood has been frightened into removing all ties between muslims and terrorism since the twin towers fell. It’s as simple as that. So now we have G.I. Joe battling a scottish gun runner. Ha! We’ve grown so scared to the point where it’s becoming politically incorrect to even mention that millions of muslims all over the world (assuming that at least 10% of muslims worldwide are jihadist terrorists) want to kill us all.

Why has the attack on U.S. soil strengthened hollywood’s resolve to disregard the obvious?

Nevertheless, you’ve missed my point entirely.

The point: p.c.-liberal-hollywood types are SO scared to make terrorists Muslims these days that we get white neo-nazis blowing up Baltimore in ‘Sum of All Fears’ rather than the jihadists who did it in the book. We get ‘extremist white guys’ apparently being the bad guys in the forthcoming G.I.-Joe film. We get white terrorists in ‘Live Free or Die Hard.’ We get white terrorists in the ‘Borne Ultimatum.’ Even James Bond, who once openly fought Soviets (which made sense considering that they were the world’s biggest threat at the time), has not yet found himself fighting the modern threat of jihad. Instead, he’s fighting newspaper editors, money launderers, Koreans, and more Russians.

It’s as if the jihadists were so effective with their 9/11 attack to the point where hollywood is so scared to even raise the idea of muslims being terrorists anymore. Yeah, we had True Lies before 9/11, but isn’t the idea of “middle easterners as terrorists” much more relevant today than ever before?

Of course, with P.C. Hollywood, the “terrorists” will be right-wing white guys… just like the “terrorists” in ‘Sum of All Fears’ transmorphed from muslims to skinheads…

Now if this movie has a bunch of American-loving kids hunting down jihadist sleeper cells, then you’d have something.

If you’ve ever had to check IDs as I have, you know that the lack of standardization across the country makes the job very difficult, if not impossible. And when we’re talking about the ability to board an airplane, the concern is even more acute.

Some state drivers licenses are as crappy as a high school ID card; just a piece of paper with a shoddy lamination job. Yet “unknowns” — aka illegal aliens — can open bank accounts, enter gov’t buildings, and board mass transit with them. It’s foolish to suggest this is a good thing.

REMEMBER: Just a couple of months ago, Bloomberg said “Let ’em come!” on the issue of illegal aliens.

He NEVER said that they shouldn’t get licenses. It’s pretty easy to say the following: “Illegal aliens should never be given drivers licenses.”

But he didn’t say that. This goes well beyond guns. But he doesn’t get that. He supports illegal immigration.
