Thanks for covering this, Peter. As you know, this is a watered-down version of my bill with Rep. Kagan, but at least it’s a start. (In our research, as an example, it’s claimed that almost half of the “service animals” on airplanes are merely pets so their owners can get out of paying pet fees.) The key will be educating the public that this is now on the books to hopefully deter it from happening in the first place. Sad commentary on people’s ethics today that we even need this law. |

It happens more often than you know within our political process, even more now due to term limits. However, I can only say that neither Sen. Hudak or I were in the legislature then and had no votes at that time. This is exactly why we need to focus on evidence-based research when looking at policy rather than the changing political tides. SB-133 does just that — looking at the date and looking for best practices based on proven outcomes. Hope that helps. |
